Pricing
Pricing comics is much more involved than just looking up the
price in a price guide and selling it. Most price guides only take into consideration
two factors, rarity and condition. Price guides simply serve as a starting point at which
someone might purchase the item.
Here at ATC, we consider many factors to determine the price
for our comic books. But always keep in mind that the price of a comic is whatever it is
worth to you.
This is the foundation of how we price our coimcs. For many of the items you see here,
we only have one. Others may be issues that tell an interesting story that we personally enjoy.
Undoubtedly, we are more reluctant to part with these issues. On the other hand, some of our
comics were purcahsed in a bulk lot and have never even been read. We are more willing to
part with these at well below the list value simply to make space.
Listed below is a list of items we consider when pricing our comics:
- Rarity: how unusual or how easily replaced the comic book
might be. Many of the items listed here are easily relpaced. However, keep in mind that
we take collecting very seriously and go to great means to preserve the conditon
of our comics.
- Singularity: whether the seller has more than one copy.
- Contribution: how the comic book fits into a
collection (i.e. random issue or part of an entire run). Much of the items listed here
are listed as lots of an entire run. This is because if we sell only one issue in
a collection, the rest of the collection has lost a great deal of it's value.
- Sentiment: intangible quality that links you to your
comic books and comes from your love of the artform, stories of personal interest,
and the desire to hold on to a particular comic. If you see an item listed at a higher price
that you think it should be, this is probably why. Items such as Alias, Transformers G1,
Born and others hold sentimental value to us, therefore we are more reluctant to part
with them.
Please keep in mind that we are avid fans and collectors of comics and
comics related items. The purpose of this site is to show off part of our collection
and maybe make room for more comics by selling some.
